A name for this and a new direction.....

I feel pretty good for once about all of this. We found out lots of information....some good and some bad.......but this doctor KNEW what was going on in Landry. Yeah! Someone who has knowledge about this. She finally gave it a name. He is IgG Immune Complex. This is very rare in children but happens in adults. The weird thing is it mainly happens to adults who take seizure medicine. She had never seen a child with this (but read about it) or have suffered through erythema multiform like Landry did. Once again, Landry is now up on a doctor's board to show others this. ha! This kind of cracks me up...hey I need a laugh right now:)

What he has is IgG antigens and not IgE antigens. Our Austin doctor had it wrong. IgG cannot be treated or prevented. It is a serious reaction that leads to kidney damage. This is why they were so concerned about Landry's kidneys with our very first reaction. His renal glands were failing thus causing extreme swelling. We are SOOOO lucky he didn't have permanent damage from that. He will not out grow this. We are to STAY AWAY from antibiotics at all cost. Unless we hit an illness that will hurt him more than an antibiotic would (nice huh?) To put him in the hospital and try an IV form of antibiotic is stupid in her book. Oral and IV are all the same in IgG patients! Didn't know that. We have been told different. Each time we give him something that he has already reacted to we are risking kidney failure and joint damage. Oh yea, joint damage is also a side effect of erythema multiform.

So what now?

She is very unsure of what he can take so she is sending us to an ID doctor. This is an infectious disease doctor. They deal with antibiotics and their complex structures all the time. She is taking an educated guess that we might could try Rocephin but not sure. This is our next step to see this guy. Also, IF we try this antibiotic Landry has to take steroids at the same time to hopefully trick the body into not swelling up.

To recap:
~He is IgG Immune complex.
~Avoid Antibiotics if possible. The illness has to be hurt him more than an antibiotic would before we can try one.
~See new ID doc as soon as possible to talk about a game plan.
~Try Rocephin with steroids. Watch his kidneys.
~Continue to stop medicine asap if we see any bumps.
